Euro 2008 Match Report

David Healy ensured Nigel Worthington made a winning start as Northern Ireland coach as they beat Liechtenstein 3-1 at Windsor Park. The striker continued his remarkable scoring sequence to keep the province on course for the finals of the European Championship for the first time.

Healy grabbed a brace to take his tally to 11 goals in the campaign and 31 overall in 57 international appearances. He opened the scoring after just five minutes when he steered a neat header into the roof of the net and doubled his tally 10 minutes before the interval when he rattled a superb strike home from 20 yards.

With Kyle Lafferty also scoring his first competitive goal in the second, Northern Ireland were able to overtake Spain and move into second place in qualifying Group F behind Sweden, although the visitors netted a late consolation.
